Graham Potter was dismissed as Chelsea boss on Sunday following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa. Chelsea only won three games in 2023 despite the club investing over £600million on new players since the summer.
Potter did one unusual thing following his dismissal by Chelsea to make the transition to the next manager smooth for the club.
The Athletic reports: “One of the unusual parts of Potter’s departure is that most of his backroom staff will stay in place until a successor is hired. This is something Potter has supported.
“That means former Brighton defender and captain Bruno Saltor will be in charge for the home game against Liverpool on Tuesday and possibly after that. Bruno worked under Potter after retiring as a player in 2019 and the Spaniard moved to Stamford Bridge alongside him earlier this season.
“The board wanted some consistency and believe the infrastructure is there to bounce back in the league and compete against holders Real Madrid in a two-leg Champions League quarter-final on April 12 and 18.”
