The prospect of Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell leaving the club for Premier League rivals Manchester City cannot be ruled out, according to The Athletic.
The report claims there’s genuine interest from Manchester City in signing Chilwell this summer with Pep Guardiola keen on signing a left-back this summer.
Guardiola was keen on signing Chilwell before he joined Chelsea for £50million ($60.2m) in 2020 and City are hoping to lure the England international to the Etihad Stadium in the summer.
Chelsea are reportedly planning a mass clearout in the summer partly to reduce the size of the squad and also to help meet financial fair play rules.
Chelsea will reportedly consider offers for players with just one or two years left in their contracts and Chilwell is among the 12 players in that bracket.
With Chilwell being 26 and England international, Chelsea reportedly believe the club could command a high fee for the left-back. Chelsea also believe the club have Marc Cucurella, who can replace Chilwell at left-back.
Should Chilwell be sold in the summer, Chelsea will look to use Lewis Hall or Ian Maatsen, who is impressing on loan at Championship leaders Burnley, as back-up to Cucurella at left-back.
Should Chilwell be sold in the summer?
