Chelsea star Thiago Silva has described the FIFA Best awards as a joke after Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez finished above above Robert Lewandowski and Kevin de Bruyne.
Lionel Messi finished first while French pair Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe finished second and third.
Real Madrid’s Luka Modric finished fourth, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland finished fifth while Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane finished sixth.
Alvarez finished seventh, above Neymar, Mohammed Salah, Achraf Hakimi, Vinicus Jr, and the previously mentioned Lewandowski and De Bruyne.
Alvarez’s inclusion was the most surprising in the list of 14 other international stars given he has managed just five goals in 19 Premier League appearances for Man City this season.
Reacting to the rankings of the FIFA Best awards, Thiago Silva wrote on Instagram: “Joke right there.”
