Manchester City are interested in signing 28 year Chelsea midfielder and Croatian international Mateo Kovacic, according to The Telegraph via CaughtOffside.
The Croatia international has been a key figure for the Blues in recent years after initially joining on loan from Real Madrid, and it looks like City are reviving the interest they showed in him before he made the move to west London.
Kovacic will have just one year left on his Chelsea contract at the end of the season and with the new Chelsea owners keen to avoid players going into the final year of their contracts, Manchester City are hoping to sign the 28 year old midfielder on the cheap this summer.
Kovacic’s current Chelsea deal expires in 2024, so if the club don’t let him go this summer, Chelsea face the risk of losing him for nothing just a year later.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is reportedly a huge fan of Kovacic and sees him as an ideal replacement for Ilkay Gundogan.
