IT’S NOT NEW. Graham Potter’s biggest problem at Brighton was goalscoring and it’s also a problem for him at Chelsea

Whoever expected Graham Potter to turn Chelsea into an attacking team scoring lots of goals must have been dreaming.

Chelsea’s lack of goals is not an unfamiliar problem for Potter as he also had the same struggles at Brighton.

Brighton’s best season under Potter was a 9th place finish in the Premier League last season but goalscoring was also a problem for his Brighton team even in their best season.

Brighton scored just 42 Premier League goals last season. Only four teams scored fewer goals than Brighton last season, and three of those sides were relegated.

Chelsea are now even worse in the final third than Potter’s Brighton were in 2021-22. Potter’s Chelsea have just 15 goals from their 17 league games, an average of 0.9 goals per match.

Chelsea goalscoring has also gotten worse under Potter than under Thomas Tuchel. Chelsea averaged 2 goals per game in the Premier League last season under Tuchel and averaged 1.3 goals under Tuchel this season before he was sacked.

If Todd Boehly expected better under Potter after sacking Tuchel, it only got worse as Chelsea have averaged a lowly 0.9 goals per game under Potter.

Across 63 league matches under Tuchel, Chelsea averaged 1.7 goals per game, almost double the number the Blues have managed with Potter in charge.

Chelsea also had a higher xG (1.7 to 1.2), more shots (15.2 to 11.9), and created more big chances (2.4 to 1.9) under Tuchel when compared to Potter.

Given the attacking players at Potter’s disposal at Chelsea compared to when Tuchel was in charge, Chelsea should be improving in attack and not getting worse.

Truth be told, Potter isn’t good enough for Chelsea.

  1. It is necessary the leaders of Chelsea FC dismiss Potter because he does not understand anything in the sport particularly in football and he is not experienced in this field….Chelsea FC was a great club under the previous coaches but today under Potter any Premier League team can beat Chelsea…. I urge the Directors to sack Potter. Hear us fans…Chelsea are still losing Fans all over the world under potter

  2. Potter has manage to turn Chelsea into Brighton. A mid table team. This is not what it should be. Todd should understand that Chelsea isn’t a team for experiment. You con get a coach from a top club that is doing great in other European countries just the way Manchester United did with Ten, certainly not with this guy who has no bases for bigger club.
