Chelsea boss Graham Potter has revealed his delight at Thiago Silva signing a new one-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues announced on Friday that the Brazilian centre-back has signed a new contract with the club until the summer of 2024.

“[I am] delighted to hear the news of Thiago extending,” Potter said.

“Fantastic player, fantastic person, for us very important on the pitch, very important off the pitch.

“I think he’s played a really key role for us. When you look at his relationship with Benoit, in terms of helping younger players, mentoring at the same time, performing at the level he’s performing at so he can help us on the pitch.

“So well deserved and good news for us all.”
