According to The New York Times via Metro, Chelsea failed with a late attempt to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on loan.
Chelsea’s co-owner Todd Boehly personally negotiated with Fiorentina over a loan deal for Amrabat while talks were ongoing with Benfica for Fernandez.
Boehly reportedly considered Fiorentina’s asking price ‘unreasonable’ and the Italian club were unwilling to let Amrabat go unless it was on a permanent deal.
The report also adds that Boehly was asked by the Fiorentina hierarchy how he would feel if the situation was reversed and a club had attempted to sign a Chelsea player ‘on the cheap’ just hours before the transfer window closed.
