Benfica are ready to increase Enzo Fernandez’s release clause to €150m (£132m) to block a transfer to Chelsea, according to Record via Metro.

Chelsea failed to agree a deal for the Argentina international earlier this month but are planning to make another move for the Argentina midfielder before Tuesday transfer deadline.

Fernandez’s current release clause is €120million and the Portuguese club have been demanding Chelsea pay it in full to sign the midfielder this January.

Despite having a bid for Fernandez rejected by Benfica, Chelsea are reportedly planning to table a late offer for Fernandez with the January transfer window set to close in two days.

The Blues have splashed the cash since Todd Boehly replaced Roman Abramovich in the summer as owner of the club.

Chelsea have already signed seven players during the January transfer window – Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Noni Madueke, Joao Felix and Malo Gusto.
