Despite spending almost £500million on new players in just two transfer windows since taking over the club, the new Chelsea ownership also remain keen on promoting the best academy talents into the first-team.
During the era of Roman Abramovich, while Chelsea spent heavily on transfers, players coming out of the academy were always overlooked.
According to Football London, the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital ownership are not just looking at signing the best players for Chelsea, their focus is also on the talent being developed at Cobham.
The report claims the new Chelsea owners view the Chelsea academy as one of the best in the world and have highlighted privately how many players have left the club and established themselves across Europe.
One of the reasons why Thomas Tuchel was sacked as Chelsea boss was his hesitance to trust talented youngsters.
Boehly and Clearlake want to ensure there isn’t a repeat talent drain. It’s why efforts are being made to keep Chelsea’s brightest young players at the club.
“[It’s important] you figure out how to make the academy – that is so top – collaborate with the first team,” explained Boehly at the Salt Conference in September. “You need to show players the pathway and you teach them about how you’re thinking about the future.”
