Chelsea have warned Lyon that the Blues won’t pay over the odds for 19 year old right-back Malo Gusto, according to The Telegraph.
Chelsea made an opening offer for Gusto in the region of £17.6million that fell well short of Lyon’s valuation.
While the Blues are planning to submit another offer, Chelsea are not willing to pay over the odds for the 19 year old right-back.
Chelsea’s warning not to pay over the odds for Gusto prompted Lyon president Aulas to post a message on Twitter that read: “Malo, a great hope for OL, will continue to play with OL at least until 06/30/23.”
While the statement appeared definitive, Aulas and Lyon have form for publicly declaring players will not be sold before selling them, such as in the cases of Michael Essien and Florent Malouda to Chelsea.
It remains to be seen whether or not Chelsea would get anywhere near Lyon’s valuation of £35m for the France Under-21 international.
