According to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad via Metro, Chelsea are confident of reaching an agreement with Everton for the transfer of Amadou Onana but 21-year-old midfielder rejected a switch to Stamford Bridge.

Onana joined Everton from Lille just five months ago for £33million and wants to focus on helping keep Everton in the Premier League this season.

Everton are aiming to keep their squad together to fend off relegation this season but are open to selling players in order to ease their financial concerns.

Chelsea explored the option of signing Onana after Brighton and Benfica rejected Chelsea’s offers for Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez respectively.

Chelsea have spent in excess of £150 million on new signings this month but remain keen on signing a central midfielder before the January transfer window closes.
