Chelsea are set to hand 38 year old centre-back Thiago Silva a new contract, according to The Times.

Silva, who turns 39 in September, has made 105 appearances for the Blues since he arrived at the club in 2020 from French club Paris Saint-Germain and is believed to be keen to keep playing until he turns 40.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter reportedly views Silva as the perfect role model as the club’s hierarchy attempt to build a team for the future.

Silva’s current Chelsea contract expires at the end of the season and the Blues are keen on extending his deal to remain at the club for another season.
