Chelsea are going all out to sign exciting Lyon right-back Malo Gusto after ditching plans to sign Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, according to The Express.
Chelsea are keen on signing a backup to Reece James at right-back following his injury struggles this season.
James’ absence has shown the lack of depth Chelsea have at right-back, with Trevoh Chalobah and Cesar Azpilicueta struggling to fill-in.
The Blues are confident Lyon right-back Gusto is at the right age to make an immediate impact but also continue to develop into a top Premier League player.
Chelsea also believe that Gusto possesses a profile that is similar to that of James. He is an attack-minded full-back who boasts excellent athleticism, pace and is technically adept.
Chelsea are lining up a January bid for Gusto. Lyon do not want to sell their prized youngster and would rather keep the teenager until the end of the season.
Despite Lyon’s unwillingness to sell Gusto this month, Chelsea are confident a deal can reached with Lyon to sign the 19 year old right-back.
