Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has given an update on Chelsea’s bid for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The Blues have prioritised signing a midfielder during the January transfer window and have identified 21 year old Fernandez as a priority signing this January.
While several reports claimed Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Fernandez from Benfica for €127million, Romano insists no agreement has been reached between both teams.
According to Romano, Chelsea submitted an official bid of €85million for Fernandez but Benfica are demanding €120million for his transfer.
Romano tweeted: “Enzo Fernández deal. As things stand, Chelsea & Benfica have not scheduled new meeting after talks collapsed.
“Rui Costa always said: €120m [clause] or no way. Chelsea verbally discussed that with Benfica then official bid was €85m. No deal.”
Romano added: “Chelsea official proposal for Enzo Fernández was never €120m or €127m. The final proposal made to Benfica was €85m fee.
“Chelsea have never discussed €120m release clause.”
