Chelsea have been a mess under Graham Potter, former Chelsea striker claims

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton is unimpressed with how Chelsea have been performed this season.

Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live: “The way Chelsea have performed in their last seven Premier League games – just one win – that’s not good enough. There was a really flat performance against Nottingham Forest who are in a relegation battle.

“I think they have been a mess all season, in truth – there were rumblings pre-season with Thomas Tuchel and in the end he parted ways with Chelsea. Graham Potter came in and actually had an OK start.

“They’ve spent an absolute fortune, they’ve bought another player today from Monaco for the best part of £30m but they haven’t clicked – I don’t think they have a real identity under Potter.

“He proved himself at Brighton and has done throughout his managerial career but this is a totally different test where it’s about winning big trophies and they don’t look like doing that this season under Graham Potter.

“I think he needs a top-four place to hold on to his job. If they lose heavily tonight and then again to Manchester City in the FA Cup at the weekend, under the previous owner I’m sure he would have been a goner but Todd Boehly seems to be quite patient.

“I think there are Chelsea fans out there who think this job is too big for Graham Potter – hence why this is such an important game for him, 10th in the Premier League isn’t good enough.

“They are languishing behind Fulham and Brentford – over the last 20 years we have associated Chelsea with being serial winners and they are anything but that this season.”
