Manchester United legend Gary Neville has suggested Chelsea will be overpaying if the Blues sign Enzo Fernandez for €127million (£112m) during the January transfer window.

Fernandez was named Best Young Player of the World Cup after helping Argentina win the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Chelsea’s offer of €127million (£112million) will surpass the £100m Manchester City paid Aston Villa for Jack Grealish’s services – with former United defender Neville shocked Chelsea are prepared to go that high for the Argentine.

“Are Chelsea paying €127m for Enzo Fernandez? That’s one hell of a price. A very good player but bloody hell!” Gary Neville tweeted.

Fernandez remains keen to join Chelsea this month and has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea.

In his latest attempt to force a move to Chelsea, Fernandez has informed Benfica he does not want to be involved in their next fixture set to take place on Friday evening against Portimonense.
