Chelsea have moved a step closer to signing Argentina World Cup star Enzo Fernandez after agreeing personal terms with the Benfica midfielder, according to a report on Metro.
Chelsea are looking to strengthen the squad significantly in the January window and have identified the World Cup winner as the ideal signing to overhaul our ageing midfield.
The 21 year old is keen on joining Chelsea even though he only joined Benfica six months ago – though the Portuguese side are demanding his £106million release clause is paid in full.
Chelsea are reportedly prepared to pay the release clause of Fernandez but want to restructure the payments and pay in instalments over several years.
The Blues are optimistic an agreement with Benfica can be reached over a payment structure for the transfer of Fernandez in the coming days.
Fernandez is very keen on a move to Stamford Bridge and wants to test himself at a higher level, with his entourage now waiting on Benfica and Chelsea to reach an agreement.
