According to Simon Phillips, Chelsea still remain interested in signing Barcelona forward Memphis Depay ahead of the January transfer window.
Chelsea were interested in signing the 28 year old Barcelona forward in January and Phillips believes Chelsea could still make a move for the forward in January.
With Armando Broja out injured for the rest of the season, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the only recognised striker that manager Graham Potter has available, though Kai Havertz can also play up front.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Phillips said: “It’s definitely one that cannot be ruled out as an option, purely because Chelsea were interested in the summer.”
Depay’s stats are also pretty impressive. In his senior career, he has scored 147 goals in 396 appearances, as per Transfermarkt. For his country, the Barcelona man has also netted 43 times in 86 caps.
Meanwhile, Benfica have now released an official statement reiterating their desire to keep Enzo Fernandez until the end of the season amid interest from Chelsea.
“SL Benfica clarifies that at no time did the President of the Club, Rui Costa, utter the words that are being circulated in Italy by DAZN,” Benfica said in a statement.
“Sport Lisboa e Benfica reiterates its intention to count on the player Enzo Fernández until the end of the season.”
