According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Benfica midfielder and Argentina World Cup star Enzo Fernandez has agreed to join Chelsea in the January transfer window.

However, despite Fernandez reaching an agreement to join Chelsea in January, the Blues are yet to reach an agreement with Benfica for the 21 year old midfielder.

Chelsea want to offer Benfica a huge fee instead of paying his £106 million release clause in one solution, but Benfica have previously stated that they will not sell the midfielder for less.

Liverpool and Manchester United, meanwhile, are firm admirers, but haven’t made an offer for the player.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are making progress in talks over a new contract with N’Golo Kante, according to Daily Mail.

Kante’s Chelsea contract expires at the end of the season and the Blues are confident the 31 year old midfielder will extend his contract with the club.

Kante, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, has struggled this year with injuries and had looked likely to leave Stamford Bridge when his contract comes to an end next summer.

Chelsea and Kante are both reportedly confident a deal will be struck soon, the contract length remains a key issue – with the two parties yet to agree on the duration.

The Blues are offering Kante a two-year contract with the option of a third year but the 31 year old midfielder reportedly wants a longer deal.

Spanish club Barcelona and Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr are both interested in signing Kante as a free agent at the end of the season.
