Chelsea are reportedly prepared to pay a club-record transfer fee to sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez in January.

According to Duncan Castles via Daily Record, the Blues are prepared to pay in excess of €127million in January to sign Fernandez in January.

The 21 year old midfielder won the World Cup with Argentina in January and was also named the Best Young Player of the World Cup.

With Jude Bellingham attracting so many suitors, the Blues are now pushing to sign Fernandez from Benfica in January.

Chelsea are hoping Fernandez will push Benfica for an immediate move to Stamford Bridge in January as the Blues seek to turn around a difficult first season under Todd Boehly’s leadership.

Benfica signed Fernandez from Argentine club River Plate in the summer for €10million. Fernandez has started every one of Benfica’s Liga Portugal games as the club established an eight-point lead at the top of the division.

Benfica prefer to sell Fernandez in the summer and are contracted to pay 25 per cent of the midfielder’s next transfer fee to River Plate.
