Chelsea boss Graham Potter has been urged to always start Chelsea forward Kai Havertz following his performance in the 2-0 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge.

Havertz scored Chelsea’s first goal and provided the assist for the second goal as the Blues returned to winning ways in the Premier League.

Chelsea legend Joe Cole was impressed with the performance of Havertz against Bournemouth and insists the German international is the way forward for the Blues.

Cole told Amazon Prime: “Kai Havertz is a very good guy. We want him to be more mean, we want him to do what he did today. Breaking his neck to get in those positions to score goals, like he did tonight.

“He led the line, he was excellent tonight, got a goal and an assist. That was a real bold decision from Graham Potter because Aubameyang is on the bench, a proven goal scorer, he’s gone with Havertz and I think that’s the way forward for Chelsea.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Graham Potter gave his verdict on Chelsea’s performance against Bournemouth.

Potter told BBC Sport: “Credit to the players. You’re never sure how it’ll go with the break we had.

“The first-half performance was good. The attitude was fantastic. The players tried their best.

“It was a deserved win. We had to hold on. Bournemouth made it competitive.

“It’s a step forward for us as a team.

“We weren’t in the best of moments [before the break]. You have to use breaks as best you can. Evaluate and reassess and get injured players back. We used it as best we could even with players coming back at different times.”
