Chelsea are in talks over a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund and Germany striker Youssoufa Moukoko in January, according to GiveMeSport.

The 18-year-old starlet will head into the final six months of his contract with the Bundesliga side in January.

The Blues initially wanted to sign him as a free agent at the end of the season but are now keen on bringing him to Stamford Bridge in January following the injury to Armando Broja.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “Chelsea’s preference has always been to work the player side to try and get him to agree to a summer move and then their hope, therefore, is that he won’t sign a new deal and they’ll get him on a free transfer, which is cost-effective and they get a young talent.

“But due to Armando Broja’s injury, there is a chance that Chelsea want to escalate the situation and bring in Moukoko earlier. These are ongoing conversations.

“It’s sort of cat and mouse because if Chelsea start the process and think that they can sign the player in January for a modest fee and then Dortmund use that as leverage and Moukoko uses that as barter and then midway through the month signs a new deal, then Chelsea are chasing, and they’re being used in a game.

“Moukoko might get a better deal out of that and still not want to leave until the end of the season. This is what Chelsea are going to understand.”
