Chelsea star Kai Havertz scored a hat-trick as the Blues beat Brentford 5-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday.
The friendly took place in our Cobham training ground and is our final warm-up game before competitive action resumes.
The friendly match against Brentford was played over three periods of 45 minutes each to give as many players as possible a chance to feature, according to Evening Standard.
Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech did not feature in the friendly against Brentford after facing each other in the World Cup third-place play-off between Croatia and Morocco on Saturday.
Chelsea will return to competitive action on December 27th when we take on Bournemouth in a Premier League game at Stamford Bridge. Our next game is a trip to Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United right-back Gary Neville has revealed the real reason why Manchester City sold Raheem Sterling to Chelsea.
“I was told a year ago when City let Jesus and Sterling go – because I was quite surprised that City let both go at the same time – that this kid [Alvarez] was the reason,” Neville said via Sky Sports’ World Cup podcast.
“Someone said that to me, that is quite close to City, that he was the reason and they didn’t want to block his path.”
