An American school teacher has become a millionaire overnight after backing Hakim Ziyech’s Morocco to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
The school teacher put $90,818 on the African nation to reach the last eight of the tournament at odds of 11/1.
Despite being in the same group as Belgium, Croatia and Canada, Morocco beeezed through the group stages of the World Cup unbeaten.
A 0-0 draw against Croatia was followed up with victories against both Belgium and Canada, ensuring they topped Group F and set up a mouthwatering last-16 clash against Spain.
Despite Spain being heavy favourites against the African side, Morocco progressed to the quarter-finals of the World Cup after holding Spain to a goalless draw after 120 minutes before booting them out of the tournament via penalties.
Morocco’s victory over Spain ensured the American school teacher became a millionaire overnight.
Speaking to Action Network, the teacher from USA said: “I was checking my phone every once in a while, but I wasn’t watching it.
“I don’t know one player’s name. I’m not going to lie and say I knew what I was doing.
“At the end of the day it was a bet that just got lucky. I’m a regular degenerate dude.”
The quarter-finals is the furthest Morocco have ever managed to get in a World Cup – and they’ll now face off against Portugal for a place in semi final of the competition on Saturday.
It was painful when the French eliminated them.
