Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly regrets the decision to send Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku out on loan to Inter Milan last summer, according to The Athletic.

The report also adds that former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich would not have sanctioned such a humiliating admission of defeat by loaning out the club record signing on terms so friendly to Inter Milan.

After regretting the Lukaku decision, Boehly drew a harder line with Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech later in the window, insisting they could only leave Stamford Bridge on permanent deals for transfer fees that made business sense.

Lukaku has struggled with injuries during his loan spell at Inter Milan and has played just 256 minutes of football for the Italian side.

“A big rip-off,” former Inter president Massimo Moratti said of Lukaku as he blasted Inter Milan’s decision to loan Lukaku from Chelsea. “He has practically never played.”
