Chelsea duo Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly secured their first victory at the World Cup as Senegal beat hosts Qatar 3-1.

Mendy was heavily criticised following his performance in Senegal’s 2-0 defeat to Netherlands but he impressed against Qatar despite keeping a clean sheet.

“It’s a pity that Senegal conceded a goal, but this is the best performance so far in Qatar [by Africa], final score 3-1,” Chelsea legend Didier Drogba reacted to the win via Twitter.

Senegal’s next game at the World Cup is against Ecuador. A win would see the West Africans safely to the last 16.
