Chelsea have been heavily linked with a move for 37 year old Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo after his Manchester United contract was terminated on Tuesday by mutual consent.

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has revealed why the Blues shouldn’t be making a move for the 37 year old forward in January.

With Ronaldo now a free agent after his Manchester United contract was terminated on Tuesday by mutual consent, Kompany was asked if the Championship club will move for the 37 year old Portugal international.

Kompany smiled and then responded: “We need players who can run.”

The quip prompted laughter in the BBC studio from former players Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Didier Drogba.

Lineker then added: “He can’t even get in the Burnley team?! Surely not, I’m not having that.”
