Former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf has warned Chelsea against signing Cristiano Ronaldo following his exit from Manchester United.

Manchester United terminated Ronaldo’s contract with immediate effect on Tuesday with the player now able to join whichever club he likes.

“Do you know, last summer, I thought Chelsea had a chance to have him,” Leboeuf told ESPN FC.

“I thought because of the season he had last season, it would have been a good idea, because Chelsea had something [lacking] in their front line.

“But this season, with the season he is having, I don’t really want to see him.”

Pressed on why he did not want Chelsea to sign Ronaldo in January, Leboeuf added: “You have to change your game [plan] because of the attention you have to give to Ronaldo.

“When he is on the field you have to play for him, we have talked about that many times.

“He hasn’t got the power of changing a game like he used to have.

“With all due respect, he was a fantastic player, but he is not the same. That is clear and we can all see that.

“Maybe to re-join the team he started with, Sporting Lisbon, would be a great idea.”
