Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Chelsea are still interested in signing RB Leipzig defender and Croatian international Josko Gvardiol.

This is despite the majority of Chelsea’s summer signings being in defence.

The Croatian defender was of interest to Spurs and Chelsea in the transfer window, with the the Blues seeing an £80m deal plus add-ons to acquire his services for 2023 being refused by Leipzig.

According to Romano, Chelsea are likely to go back in for Gvardiol after more impressive domestic displays although his focus is currently on the World Cup

Romano said: “At the moment I’m told Chelsea remain interested but there’s still nothing agreed; the race is open, nothing will happen now as he’s 100% focused on World Cup.”
