Chelsea star Mason Mount has received praise for his performance in England’s 6-2 victory over Iran in their World Cup opener.

Mount created one chance, made 33 passes, won 7 out of 9 ground duels and completed two dribbles.

Chelsea fans took to Twitter to react to Mount’s performance:

Jai McIntosh: “Mount is devilish in pockets of space, efficient with his touches, and consistently looking to maintain quick forward progression.”

Jacob Steinberg: “All the focus will be on Saka and Bellingham but Mount had a really good first half. Plenty of creativity and he works so hard to win the ball back. Clear why Southgate has him in the team.”

Vintage CFC: “Sterling and Mount played in their best positions & cooked today in a 433. Hopefully Potter is watching.”

Joe Tomlinson: “Mason Mount in this first half has been outrageous. His ability on the half turn is genuinely unbelievable, he’s dictating the tempo of the press. He is EVERYWHERE.”

Premier League Panel: “Mount was excellent in that left-sided 8 role. Receiving the ball between the lines, carrying the ball, making late runs into the box.

“He produced a similar performance for Chelsea vs Wolves as an LCM a few weeks ago. That role suits him much more than playing in the front 3.”
