Chelsea will push to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong next summer despite the midfielder turning down a move to Stamford Bridge in August, according to Spanish media outlet Sport.

Chelsea have reportedly told the representatives of De Jong that the Blues remain interested in signing him next summer.

Chelsea are going to change virtually the entire midfield lineup next season and want De Jong ‘no matter what’, according to the report.

Barcelona, who were open to selling De Jong in the summer, reportedly want to keep the midfielder but will sell him for ‘an astronomical and irresistible offer’.

Exactly what that figure is has not been made clear in the report.

Barcelona paid Ajax €75 million (£65 million) in transfer fees to sign the midfielder, who has a release clause of €400 million (£347 million) in his contract.
