Chelsea were keen on signing Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong during the summer transfer window.
However, the Dutch international midfielder had no interest in leaving the Spanish club despite Barcelona putting him out for sale to raise money for transfer.
Chelsea still remain interested in signing De Jong but the midfielder has now declared he intends to stay at Barcelona for 8 or 10 more years.
“I am very happy in Barcelona. When I play it’s great and in terms of living here life is perfect. I see myself at Barcelona for as long as possible. I personally hope for another 8 or 10 years,” Frenkie de Jong told De Telegraaf.
De Jong started the season as Xavi’s fourth option in midfield. However, he regained his starting spot as the season progressed. So far, the 25-year-old has recorded two goals and an assist in 17 matches (11 starts).
