Revealed: Chelsea considering building new stadium outside Stamford Bridge

Chelsea are looking at a possible move from Stamford Bridge to Earls Court to build a new 60,000 capacity stadium, according to Daily Mail.

New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has reportedly put together a team to oversee plans to create an elite new stadium — and a 60,000-seat ground on a 40-acre site in Earls Court is among the options that will be considered.

Chelsea are also considering a range of long-term options, including identifying possible new sites, rebuilding Stamford Bridge stand-by-stand and demolishing and starting again.

Chelsea would require permission from Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO) to leave Stamford Bridge. The shareholder group owns the freehold with a 180-year lease. Without their permission the club would be forced to give up the Chelsea FC name.

Chelsea also have the possibility of snapping up a 1.2 acre site next to Stamford Bridge for £50million.
