Chelsea had more chances to add to the scoreline, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang missing the biggest chance of the game when placed one on one with the goalkeeper.
Salzburg made things difficult in the second-half, as the second period was very different.
Junior Adamu scored three minutes after the restart to level the scores for the host.
The game seemed balanced after this, with the home side looking more dangerous. However, Kai Havertz sealed Chelsea’s win with a 64th minute stunning strike.
Chelsea saw out the rest of the game, and the three points mean that Chelsea have qualified for the Champions League round of 16.
