Ajax was knocked out of the Champions League three seasons ago by Chelsea.

Chelsea defeated Ajax 1-0 at Amsterdam back then under Frank Lampard, and both sides played out a thrilling 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge two weeks later.

In the game at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea came from 4-1 down to draw the game 4-4, with the referee issuing red card to two Ajax players in one passage of play.

The result ensured Chelsea qualified from the group but Ajax didn’t.

Erik ten Hag who was in charge of Ajax then, is set for another visit to Stamford Bridge, this time as Manchester United manager.

The Dutchman has urged the referee to be fair in this game.

Asked about his experience of playing against Chelsea previously, Ten Hag said: “I hope we don’t experience tomorrow playing with 12 [people on the other team].

“If we play with 11, I think we have a good chance to win.”
