Ben Chilwell missed nearly the entire season last term with a serious knee injury.
The 25-year-old England international returned to action just this season after nearly a year of absence.
Chilwell was key to Chelsea’s play last season, and his injury led to a collapse of Chelsea title ambitions.
The left-back was dropped for Wednesday’s midweek clash against Brentford, with Marc Cucurella starting in his place.
Graham Potter has said that Chilwell can’t start in every game in order to manage the load on him.
“No reason there, it’s about workload,” he said when asked on why Chilwell didn’t start.
“He has just come back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury. We have to manage him and his situation.”
Meanwhile, Chilwell has proven to be a better player than Cucurella, and still number one in his position. Even though it was at first feared that the Spaniard will take his place.
