AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori was sent off in the Champions League clash against AC Milan at the San Siro on Tuesday night.

Mason Mount got the better of Tomori as he ran in behind the defender, only for Tomori to pull Mount.

German referee Daniel Siebert, didn’t hesitate to point to the spot and issue a red card to Tomori. Despite intense protests from Tomori and AC Milan players, the referee’s decision stood.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher had claimed that the decision felt harsh.

“The red card for Tomori feels harsh,” Carragher wrote on Twitter.

“But what happened to double jeopardy? Could it not just be a penalty and no red card [shrugging emoji].”

Meanwhile, Tomori had said he was looking forward to this game, and that the team had learnt from their mistakes, following a first leg bashing at Stamford Bridge.

“After the match against Chelsea I was angry and I wanted to give everything on the pitch,” Tomori had said before the game.

“I wanted to cancel the performance against Chelsea and I expressed how I felt. Every game I try to give my best.

“Last week I know I didn’t do that and that was really disappointing for me. In football you rarely get another chance to put it right.

“And we have as a team, and I have personally, another chance to put that to bed.

“We have a chance to prove that we’re better than that, I have a chance to prove that I’m better than that, and we have, not that we needed any extra motivation, but after last week we have that extra motivation to push us to try to go for the win especially in front of our own fans as well.

“We don’t need motivation but we will push even harder. It wasn’t the real Milan and it wasn’t me.

“We have to learn from last week and it’s important for the team’s growth.”
