Chelsea boss Graham Potter rotated his squad heavily for the Premier League game against Wolves on Saturday.

When the line-up was released, Potter was slammed for heavily rotating his squad, however, it paid off as Chelsea won 3-0.

Potter revealed after the game that the rotation was needed. Potter even revealed that Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva played the crucial game against AC Milan with heavy cold and need the rest afterwards.

Potter said: “Thiago Silva has had a heavy cold, played Milan but obviously two days for recovery is really short for him, so we didn’t really wanna take the chance there.

“Ben Chilwell, three games in a week, recovering from an ACL injury… That’s not the smartest thing to do to put him out, especially when we’ve got Marc Cucurella.

“Reece James had a dead leg that wasn’t fully recovered yesterday so we had to give him extra time.

“Obviously we missed Wesley [Fofana]. Mateo Kovacic, again three games in a week. He’s been nursing a knee problem so we can use Jorgi and Ruben.

“Raheem [Sterling] just had a lot of football. His load is massive. We thought it would be good for him to have a breather and maybe help us in the end of the game.

“Pretty much the same with Auba. It’s tricky because forwards rely on rhythm. He hasn’t had much football previous to moving here and also his injury, we felt he needed a breather.”
