Todd Boehly has been looking for a credible sporting director since he took over as Chelsea’s co-owner.

Previous moves for a sporting director had failed, as Christoph Freund also turned down the Chelsea job.

However, Chelsea are now set to appoint Christopher Vivell as the club’s new technical director.

Vivell was sacked from the same role by RB Leipzig this week.

Leipzig confirmed on Friday that Vivell had been relieved of his duties due to ‘contrasting views’.

A statement from RB Leipzig read: “Christopher Vivell was dismissed from his role as technical director on Thursday due to different contrasting views.

“His duties will be taken over by by the existing setup until Max Eberl’s tenure as sporting director begins.”

After talks with Chelsea, Vivell will be moving to Stamford Bridge, the Telegraph’s Matt Law has confirmed.
