Chelsea defender Ethan Ampadu has set an unwanted record in the Italian Serie A.

The 22-year-old centre-back joined Serie A side Spezia on a season-long loan deal.

Ampadu who’s highly rated in Wales had played on loan in the Serie A last season with Venezia.

The Chelsea loanee had a game to forget for Spezia on Sunday as he gave away the fastest penalty in Serie A history during a 4-0 loss to Lazio.

Just 39 seconds into the game, Ampadu fell Ciro Immobile inside the box – which set the record for fastest spot-kick ever conceded in the history of Serie A.

Ampadu was also booked for the challenge, but interestingly, Immobile missed the resulting spot kick.

Nevertheless, Spezia would go on to lose the game 4-0.

Spezia are currently 12th in the Serie A.

Meanwhile, Wales boss Robert Page had encouraged Ampadu to move away from Chelsea to get more game time ahead of the World Cup during the summer.

“Ethan has proved in the last two to three years he’s not afraid to go and play games,” Page had said.

“He’s done it in the Premier League, Bundesliga, and he’s gone over to Italy to play.

“He was back in the Chelsea squad on the weekend, so perhaps they have seen that he’s going to add value to the squad.

“He’s had a pre-season to help him, and it’s great if he’s playing and a part of it. But if he’s not, then that’s something he might have to address.”
