Graham Potter got a first win for Chelsea in his first Premier League game in charge of the club.
There was a controversial moment in the game when Thiago Silva handled the ball in the first half.
Referee Chris Kavanagh gave Thiago Silva a yellow card much to the frustration of the Palace players and Patrick Vieira.
Thiago Silva would then go on to assist Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang five minutes later for Chelsea’s first goal.
Speaking after the game, Chelsea manager Graham Potter claimed it was a 50-50 decision.
Potter said: “I thought it was touch and go. The fact he was quite far from the goal saved him and it could’ve gone the other way.
“It’s a close one, I can understand Patrick’s [Vieira] frustration. It’s a 50-50 one.”
Responding to Potter’s comments, Vieira laughed off Potter’s statement before admitting the decision was difficult to accept.
“I think he was very lucky,” he told BBC Sport.
“But it is the referee’s decision, the VAR decision but it is difficult to understand it and difficult to accept it.
“Today it was against us and we just have to move on.”
