Former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson has claimed that Chelsea made a mistake in recalling Conor Gallagher to the team this season.
Gallagher excelled on loan with Crystal Palace last season which also earned him an England call-up.
Thomas Tuchel decided to keep the 22-year-old this season, but he has so far been limited to 158 minutes of Premier League action across Chelsea’s first six games of the season.
Glen Johnson believes Chelsea should have sent Gallagher out on loan for one more season.
“I don’t think in terms of leaving the club, but another season on loan for Gallagher would have been great for him,” Johnson told SafeBettingSites.
“Personally I would have liked him to carry on his development, he was clearly enjoying himself.
“I’d rather have Chelsea have let him go back out on loan and then re-evaluate the situation at the end of the season.”
