Romelu Lukaku was signed by Chelsea last summer in a deal worth £97.5m, but the Belgian never fulfilled the heights many expected of him.

After one year at Chelsea, Lukaku would eventually seal a return to Inter Milan, albeit on a season-long loan deal.

Lukaku never seemed to fit in Thomas Tuchel’s playing style all through his one year stay at Chelsea, and the Belgian never considered staying back at the club once the season was done with.

Following the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel, Lukaku’s future has been thrown open once again, with reports of a possible return to Chelsea at the end of the season.

According to reports from Italy, Lukaku has no intention of returning to Chelsea.

Reports also indicate that Inter Milan, who do not have a buy option, will look to loan the 29-year-old once again for the 2023-24 season.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta had admitted he doesn’t know what the future will hold for Lukaku following the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel.

“It’s fresh news. I don’t know what the effects will be,” Marotta told Sky Italia while reacting to Tuchel’s sacking.

“We absolutely want to get the best contribution out of Lukaku, and then at the end of the season we’ll sit down and discuss him with Chelsea.

“I don’t know if a change of coaches means that his return is to be automatic, it’s difficult to predict today.”
