Chelsea’s co-owner, Todd Boehly, has been slammed by Al Mokawloon director Mohamed Abdel-Fathi, following his comments about Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.
Boehly had recently claimed that Salah was a product of Chelsea’s academy – a comment that earned him widespread criticism from internet users.
However, the Chelsea owner is wrong about Salah, as the Egyptian only joined the Stamford Bridge outfit from Swiss side, FC Basel in 2014.
Salah began his playing career in his home country of Egypt, after joining Al Mokawloon in 2006. He would then spend four years with them before switching to Basel.
Reacting to Todd Boehly’s claim in a Facebook post, Al Mokawloon director, Mohamed Abdel-Fathi, slammed the American for ‘showing a lack of understanding’ and being ‘ignorant’.
He said: “What the new owner of Chelsea says shows a lack of understanding.
“Mohamed Salah is a source of pride for the Al Mokawloon Club and Egyptian and Arab football, and we are honoured that he is one of our sons.
“The whole world knows Salah’s career and how he started with us, but it seems that the owner of Chelsea is the only person in the world who is ignorant of this information.”
