Former Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has given his take on new Chelsea owners’ decision to sack Thomas Tuchel.

Giroud was part of Chelsea’s Champions League winning squad, and played his part in helping Thomas Tuchel’s side win the Champions League.

Giroud who left Chelsea under Tuchel due to a lack of playing time, has said that the decision to sack the German was a sad one.

Asked about Chelsea’s decision to part ways with Tuchel, Giroud told Sky Sports News: “It’s part of football. It’s sad. I think Thomas has done a great job for Chelsea.”

Giroud who also featured for Arsenal, admitted he has been watching his former side.

Giroud added: “I’ve also been watching my Gooners. I think it’s going to be another interesting year for them.”

Quizzed if he believes Mikel Arteta can guide Arsenal to a top-four finish after last season’s Champions League setback, Giroud added: “Yes, definitely. I hope so.”

Having left Chelsea for AC Milan in the summer of 2021, Giroud has added the Italian Serie A title to his trophy haul.

The 35-year-old has won the Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, Serie A and World Cup.
