Thomas Tuchel was axed as Chelsea manager on Wednesday morning, just after Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League game on Tuesday.

Pulisic was a substitute in the game against Dinamo Zagreb, and has been a substitute for most of the season.

The 23-year-old American also featured more as a substitute last season, much to the frustration of the American star.

USA head coach Gregg Berhalter has said that Chelsea’s sacking of Thomas Tuchel could be good for Pulisic who struggled for starting roles under Thomas Tuchel.

Berhalter sees this as an opportunity for his captain ahead of the World Cup later this year.

“I’m not happy a guy lost his job. But if this means more opportunity for Christian, then it’s positive because he’s a guy that’s proven that he can perform at that level,” Berhalter said.

“We’ll just have to wait and see.”

Even if Graham Potter decides not to feature Pulisic regularly, Pulisic would still play a key role for America in the World Cup.

“I’m sure there’s not going to be anything drastic, but there may be a couple of guys that pop up,” Berhalter said of the squad he is planning to take to Qatar.

“If someone gets injured and they can’t go on that day, we’ll be ready with alternates.”
