New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has shown that he’s a man that hits the nail right on the head.
Immediately after the sacking of Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea didn’t delay with an appointment, as Graham Potter was appointed a day after.
Mauricio Pochettino was linked with the job, although Graham Potter was the favourite.
The Chelsea owners settled for Potter despite the fact that Pochettino has handled bigger jobs.
According to The Times, Todd Boehly opted against appointing Pochettino as he felt he lacks the ability to compete with the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.
Pochettino was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, and Boehly didn’t see the 50-year-old as one who would deliver titles.
Todd Boehly and his team of directors decided to settle for the less experienced Graham Potter, despite his lack of experience at the elite level of English or European football.
Boehly believes Potter has the potential to become one of the best managers in the game.
Todd Boehly said of Graham Potter’s appointment: “We are thrilled to bring Graham to Chelsea. He is a proven coach and an innovator in the Premier League who fits our vision for the Club.
“Not only is he extremely talented on the pitch, he has skills and capabilities that extend beyond the pitch which will make Chelsea a more successful Club.
“He has had a major impact at his previous Clubs and we look forward to his positive impact at Chelsea. We look forward to supporting him, his coaching team and the squad in realising their full potential in the coming months and years.”
