Chelsea new owners have sacked Thomas Tuchel after a poor start to the season from the Blues.

Tuchel was backed heavily during the summer transfer window, as Chelsea spent nearly £300m on signings, but the German has now been axed.

The club has confirmed they have ‘parted company’ with the German after defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Todd Boehly was believed to be in attendance at the Stadion Maksimir on Tuesday, and was disappointed with the team’s performance.

Tuchel guided Chelsea to Champions League success in his first season at the club but the team’s performance in the Todd Boehly era has been far from impressive.

According to reports, Graham Potter is the early frontrunner to replace Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea planning an official approach for the Brighton boss.

Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane and Luis Enrique are other options.

The Telegraph has claimed that Chelsea’s new owners want to take the club in a new direction and that Graham Potter fits the profile of manager that the Blues want.

Potter has transformed Brighton’s style of play since taking charge of the club and the Seagulls are fourth in the league this season, with 14 points from their opening six matches.

Todd Boehly wants Chelsea to play a more attacking style of play and seems to have been fed up with Thomas Tuchel’s conservative style.

Following the dismissal of Tuchel, a club statement read: “On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.

“Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.

“As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.

“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”

The German’s dismissal comes three months after the consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took ownership of Chelsea from previous owner Roman Abramovich.
