Chelsea have seen a bid of £40m rejected by Everton for young forward Anthony Gordon.
The 21-year-old is now seen as Everton’s best forward player, following the departure of Richarlison to Tottenham and the injury to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Interestingly, Everton value Gordon at £60m, and it’s yet to be seen if Chelsea would table such an offer before transfer deadline.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has said Gordon isn’t worth that amount, even though he has the potential.
Everton boss Frank Lampard has warned Gordon not to force a move away from the club.
When quizzed if £60m was too much money for Chelsea to spend on Gordon, Ferdinand said on YouTube: “Is he worth that? Probably not right now.
“Could he eventually be worth £60m? Potentially, he has the chance to do that. This kid is the crown jewels at Everton at the moment.
“They don’t want to see him go because of what that will do for the morale of the football club and the fans in the stadium.
“It’s difficult but if he wants to go, he’s got to go in and show the balls to go to the manager and the chairman and say ‘I want to leave’ and see how they deal with that.”
