It was a difficult game against Leicester City, as Chelsea played the game with a man down for more than an hour after Conor Gallagher was sent off in the 28th minute.
Gallagher had started the game brightly but picked up two yellow cards in a space of six minutes, which made Chelsea suffer for the rest of the game.
The young midfielder took to social media to praise his teammates for coming through with the three points despite his sending off.
“Proud of the team for digging deep today and winning with 10 men,” the midfielder wrote on Instagram.
“Personally, I want to apologise to my teammates, staff and the fans. I take full responsibility for the rash decision leaving them with a huge challenge for the rest of the game. Thankfully, they came through.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was unhappy with Conor Gallagher following his sending off in a space of six minutes.
Tuchel said: “You can’t make the [second] challenge if you have a yellow card after 20 or 25 minutes. The challenge was a clear yellow card and gave us a huge disadvantage.
“There was no reason to make this decision. He is responsible for what he did and of course he knows it was a huge mistake.”
